bostonIT recommends SurfControl. SurfControl can block specific types of content (like adult or gambling) and track what every user of the network is doing on the Internet. Specific Internet Applications, like Instant Messenger and Outlook Express, can also be blocked with SurfControl.
If a user attempts to access a site that has been prohibited by SurfControl a chain reaction of events can occur (based on your requirements):
A custom "Inacceptable use" web page will be displayed instead of the page they are attempting to access
An event is logged to the database
An an email or system message can be sent to someone in the environment for follow-up
SurfControl provides sophisticated reporting tools that can display usage time by user, site, or even attempted blocked activity.
